    My wife's first experience!!

I just took my wife to the range yesterday for the first time after many offers to come along and her shooting it down because she "does not like guns". Seeing as at the moment I only own a G23 I decided it would be best to borrow my brothers Beretta 92fs. I talked with her about safety alot on the way to the range this being her first time to shoot a firearm, once at the range her nerves got the best of her for about 10 minutes before she finally decided to have a turn. Long story short by the end of our trip i could not load the magazines fast enough and when we checked out she started asking questions about caliber size and maybe a smaller gun for her hands. I asked the man behind the counter to see a beretta .380 and he produced the 85 she loved it as the gun fit her smaller hands perfectly. I have finally educated my wife enough to understand the importance of firearm knowledge. She has asked to get her first handgun soon and even showed alot of interst in her CHL.

    CONGRATULATIONS!

Next you'll be trying to get away from her so that you can have some range time to yourself!!!!

Good for her. My wife first shot a gun of any kind shortly after we were engaged. I took her out to shoot a short walk from my mom and dads house in the mountins.
She was a little leary at first, but by the end of the day she was loving it. Now 46 years later, I'm trying to get her to get a CWP. Hasn't done it yet, but maybe this year.........

Congrats. This means it'll be easier to acquire new guns in the future. She'll get the bug herself.

Once I got my wife of 24 years to the range way back then, she was bitten by the bug and never looked back. Congrats to both of you!!

My wife had never shot a gun until we met. She had grown up around long guns of her dads, but he didn't own any handguns. Once she learned what she was doing she was hooked. I even gave her, her very own shelf in the safe for her 6 guns.

ATX- now you need to teach her to load her own magazines.

Get an Uplula. It's what got me out of mag duty.

And before you put the money down on the small .380's, try to find somewhere to shoot one. They are a handful. My wife can barely control the P3at, it nearly jumps out of her hands. She can shoot the lights out with her XD 9mm sc though.

Hey guys---the best thing ever to teach the ladies (or any newbie) is still the .22 lr rifle---my personal favorite is an old Nylon 66 (Remington)---lightweight, super accurate, no kick and once you explain the proper sight-picture, most girls will be hitting tin cans with the first magazine full---great confidence builder and instant fun for the new shooter! A Ruger 10-22 is just as good.

My old Rem. Nylon 66 has more rounds thru it than ALL my other guns COMBINED! My dad 'adopted' it a couple years back and I ain't seen it sense.....LOL

That's a great post and range-day ATX! Funny, once the fear and 'taboo' of guns are removed with a little knowledge and a good range experience............
Looks like she'll have her own 'drawer' here soon enough.

Thank you for all the replies, since I posted this we have discussed more about a compact 9 mm the compact frames fit her hand better and she likes the 9mm round. I'm thinking maybe something with a single stack mag not sure yet however she is excited to shoot as many different guns as possible. Thank you again for all your support and yes buying new guns just got a whole lot easier ; )
