$13 in WI. When the CCW law goes into effect in NOV. the fee for the permit will include $13 for a NICS check. As backward as WI is, I bet CCW holders will still have to do the NICS check and 48 hour wait at every purchase...

I've both paid the $2 bucks on a few purchases, and had the LGS eat the cost on a few others.

In the end it was only $2. Not enough to be a deal breaker.

I would have turned and walked out of the store at the mention of a $25 fee.

Bingo!! It would have been sayonara for me.

Alaska doesn't charge for NICS if you are purchasing a firearm.

If you are merely checking it there is usually a charge, price varies with the dealer.

In Minnesota there is no fee, but always a wait time which I do not get. I have a permit go to buy a handgun, long gun and end up having to wait. Never have I been able to walk out with my firearm on the same day. Does anyone have an FBI unique ID number?

Stupid question--NICS is run by the FBI. Why is the state charging for a federal background check? It's not like all of that hold time is spent with some state file clerk sifting through records.

In NC, you're required to get a pistol purchase permit from the Sheriff for $5/per. This allows you to bypass NICS.

    That even seems exorbitant.
In Mi. I just bought two pistols.

Actually no question is a "stupid" question! I have been told by gunshops that an FBI unique ID number would for go the wait time. They may be handing me a line but that is what I have been told. I have a permit to carry as they are called here, which also allows me to buy. It is valid for 5 years. When I put my money on the counter I would like to walk out with what I just paid for. By the way I know what the National Criminal Information System is. Just as the state CJIS. Thanks very much.

My understanding is a UPIN does not negate any waiting. It is supposed to eliminate "Holds" because of similar sounding name or other info.

You do have to provide NICS with some info in advance before the UPIN is issued.

I did a very thorough check of the laws here in the land of 10,000. It does state a waiting "cooling off" period of at least 3 days. I got some bad advice from a local gun shop regarding the "unique ID number". We have a wait of at least 3 days, most shops use 4. One chain store, Gander, uses a full week which they call "store policy." So the wait period is in law and I guess I just have to get used to it. Most shops take down payments so I may just start doing that until I get thier call to come to pick up my gun.

$18 for handgun purchases. And a 48 hour waiting period.

I've never seen a fee for a NICS check in Missouri or Kansas - I have seen several dealers with posted policies of a fee, usually $50 or so, for denied NICS checks.

Just curious, are these states with NICS fees states that do the "Point of Contact" thing, or whatever it's called where a valid state issued CCW bypasses the NICS?
