I'm not a lawyer or a LEO, just a pantload with a computer.
I have not seen any spanky new Gold Cups but, the 1911s in general are looking real good these days. Colt has made a sizeable investment in modern manufacturing equipment in recent years and the "out the door" "fit & finish" quality has been really pretty impressive overall.
I was looking at one of these Wiley Clapp Colts and almost cracked open the ol' wallet for one.

Here's hoping someone pipes up and offers a detailed reply to your question. I'm considering a 1911 this year and trying to decide whether to go with a new Colt or a nice used Series 70 or earlier.
