A silly Question I gotta ask.

Can someone explain to me the difference between Picatinny and Weaver? How do I tell the difference, and how do I find accessories for each and know I'm ordering the right one.

The Weaver mounts generally have only two or four slots on the base in which to mount rings.

The Picatinnys have slots every half inch or so the full length of the rail.

So if I understand correctly, my 10/22 in the archangel stock has Picatinny rails. My 10/22 charger has a weaver rail. The scope that came with the charger won't fit the archangel. The rail slots are too deep, or perhaps the scope rides too low on the scope rings.
My main concern is simply that I'm wanting to get a S&W 22A, which has a weaver rail, and want to mount a red-dot to it.

Thats one of those things that you wont know for sure until you try it.

Most of the time the Weaver stuff fits on a Pictatinny rail, but not always.

And then you get uppity manufacturers like H&K that use a proprietary rail system.

IIRC the slots on a Picatinny rail system are slightly larger than a Weaver. So Weaver stuff can fit but doesn't always fit correctly ( it can wiggle unless really tightened down).
It is surely true that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink. Nor can you make them grateful for your efforts.

Recoil forces attachments forward so if your mounting Weaver rings onto a Picitiny rail slide them as far as you can forward in the slot before tightening them.

I mounted a red dot to my 22A without any problem
