Extended barrel .40 S&W vs standard size barrel 10mm.
Extended barrel 9mm vs standard size barrel .357 Sig.

So just wondering, is it true that an extended barrel will push the performance of a .40 S&W to 10mm standard size barrel and a 9mm extended barrel performs much the same as a standard size .357 Sig?

Short answe is no. To get what you really want the barrel would be too long as to be inconvient. If you want a 10mm, buy a 10mm. There ain't no free lunch.

Actually, the question was not if a 10mm or 357sig would benefit from barrel length, but if the 9mm and 40 could be made to approach or equal 10mm and 357sig velocities.

And the correct answer technically , is a longer barrel would, depending on powder used give the 9 and 40 some velocity gain up to a point. But the barrel length would have to be longer than is practical for a pistol.

Any small accomplishment in gain would be dimished as bullet weights were increased.
The amount of powder used in these four cartridges is not the issue, it is the "burn rate" of the powder that determines ideal barrel length.
