No, I believe the .22LR models are different internally than "real" AR's, and are made specifically so that you can't just drop a 5.56mm upper on them.

However, 5.56mm AR's are readily adaptable to .22LR conversion kits.

The "colt" 22 version is another one that only looks like a normal AR on the outside, none of the internals are shared - Colt just licensed the name to some company (Umax??) for brand recognition

There a re several Mfgs that produce .22lr conversions for the AR15s They consist of a replacement BCG/chamber adapter and a magazine. The Colt 22lr series are actually produced by Walther and sold through Umax. They are cosmetically similar to the ARs but functionally dedicated .22LR actions. I can't speak fore the M&P 15/22. My son has the Colt M4Ops. It has been a nice rifle to date with a few ammo related hiccups. The last outing was problem free with Remington's 550 bulk ammo.

    DOH!

Read the entire post before replying you moron!

    No you can't put a 5.56/223 upper on a 22lr dedicated lower.
