    My first 1911 experience...

Had my first 1911 experience today.
Taurus PT1911 in black. 5.25' barrel, 8 round magazine. It was amazing; I mean, I knew 1911s were supposed to be cream of the crop, but holy **** (crap). The trigger was wonderful, the grip was good (my 24/7 has a little more room for my larger hands), and just the overall feel of a 1911 was... well, it was one of the best handgun experiences that I've had.

Now I have to get one. Just, please, nobody tell the missus.

The biggest problem is that the one I have my eye on right now is around $800. Pre tax. And, I told the missus when I got my 24/7 that it would be the last until after she graduates and after the wedding. If I get another before that, I think she might shoot me with it. ...more than once.

I have a Taurus Pt1911 in stainless steel, one of my favorite guns. Mine has never let me down.

She hasn't said it, but I believe it will happen. She kinda gave me that vibe when I got the 24/7. Partly because of the way she tried to talk me out of spending the $400. Even after I told her that I would be able to give that $400 gun to the kids when they get old enough, and that it would probably also make it to the grandkids. I can't remember who I heard say it, but 'a gun is the one purchase you make that you KNOW will last the rest of your life; your car won't, your house might not. But your gun; THAT will out live you'.

Wasn't my gun, but I'm wishing it was. Looking at/holding a 1911, even a new one, is looking at/holding a piece of history in your hands. (No matter how grubby/greedy they may be.) It was the U.S. Military sidearm of choice for 80+ years, and the only times I've ever heard of one failing is due to hard use, and poor maintenance. But, even then, it took a LONG time for it to get that far.

    I've got a PT1911AR.

I can shoot it better than the rest of my pistols, and it's never let me down.

Here's an outdated picture of it; after I ran 800 flawless rounds, in a 4 day defensive class through it.

That was a 5 shot group. It was an accomplishment for me

That's pretty much the 1911 I shot today, only without the 'rail.

Now perhaps you understand why there are so many "outdated" people who prefer an "old technology" SAO 1911 or BHP over anything else. BTW, welcome to the J. M. Browning society

I have a PT 1911 too and I love it. That said, if you are talking about paying $800 for the Taurus, you are being ripped off. Mine was $550 and I've seen others which were cheaper. You can also get a RIA for around $500 or a Springer for around the same price range.

I will definitely be doing more research before I get set on one brand.

But, if any of you feel the need/desire to contribute to the 'get-me-a-1911-and-keep-it-secret-so-SHE-won't-kill-me-plan' please feel free to let me know.
