I think the night stand is as close as I need mine to be. I have to make a conscious decision to pick it up.

Everybody puts the gun in the night stand. So if I'm a robber that's where I'm not going to let you go. That's why I started putting mine under the bed. If for some reason someone jumped on me in the middle of the night I could roll off the bed and reach under and get it. Think about it. A little off topic I know.

I guess he should be thankful that he does not sleep with it between his legs.

I kept mine on the nightstand, until one night, i woke with my hand on the gun near the trigger (I was probably grasping for the alarm, glass of water, etc).

Since then, I keep it in a holster bolted to the side of the nightstand.

I keep my handgun in the night stand, but also have a shotgun under the bed. I seriously doubt if a home invader could break in and make it upstairs to my bedroom without me waking up anyway. I'm a very light sleeper and nobody is getting in through my doors or windows without waking me up. Sleeping with a gun under your pillow, however, is NOT a very smart idea!!!!

I would think that a gun under the pillow is a bit unsafe...I'll use the nightstand, and I only have to reach across to have it in hand.OMOYMV

It's the media. All handguns are Glocks, just like all rifles are AK47s

That is correct. Way too often the media does not have a clue about what they are saying. Above all, when it is about firearms.

I thought the same until I had some company stay at the house. They were from the other side of the world and upside down on time when they arrived. At 3 AM, while I was sleeping, they were in the kitchen fixing lunch and chatting away. I had never ever thought someone could be up and about in my home with me sleeping right through it. Wow, I was wrong.

When I found out I immediately got a dog and put her bed on that side of the house; along with an additional intrusion detector.
