That is an awesome story, and a very nice piece of history. It's too bad that they don't let us bring stuff home anymore, as I found a FN 1900 in Afghanistan.

And if you get a chance, tell him Semper Fi and thanks for his service, from a younger Marine.

It's very awesome to hold a piece of history in your hands. Thanks for the post.

Make sure you document the story straight from him lest you forget all the details!!! i sure wish I would have done that when my Dad talked to me about WWII...

Sir, you have a unique and important 'hand-me-down' story and tools to show...from an important time in our country's history.
    Thanks for sharing!

Cool story! Museum is a good idea. BTW, I like your avatar. Is it a pic of your own wings, and if so, where/when did you make the combat jump?

That pistol does look to still be in good shape. Very nice. So many other examples I've seen look far worse.

My oldest niece's boyfriend has one that looks just like that, but again, not in as nice of condition. His father brought it home from the war, and past it on to him.

There are not many veterans from WWII left alive any more. Does your neighbor have any kids to leave these items to? If not, you should talk further to him about them.

You lucky *******. To get to talk to someone with stories like that, and see such a beautiful piece of history- not even mentioning HOLDING it- I'm happy for you. But I hate you at the same time...

Congratulations, and like shooter said- document as many of his stories as he will let you; there IS a lot to be learned from that generation, and a lot of people don't understand that until it is too late.

Tell that gentleman "Thanks for your service Sir" from a Vietnam Vet. Great story, and I hope he lives to tell many, many more stories.
