Annual Firearms Manufactures and Export Report -2010

Attached is a link to the number of guns manufactured in the US in 2010. This is the first time ATF has released the annual report only one year after reporting.

Due to the Trade Secrets Act, in the past, information reported in April of each year would not be published until 2 years after.

Anyhow, what this shows is that 2010 was not a bad year. It was about even with 2009. Years 2009 and 2010 were down both down from 2008, the election year when most people had jobs so the number are not too surprising.

Other statistics that can be compared from this report is the trend in what was manufactured (not necessarily purchased). Overall, pistols are being manufactured at a rate of 3 to 1 over revolvers. 9mm pistols remain popular but more .380 pistols were manufactured in 2010 than any other caliber or type. .380 pistol manufacturing increased almost 100% from 2009 to 2010. Rifle manufacturing took a hit in 2010 but shotguns stayed about the same.

We did a better job of (legally) exporting firearms in 2010 than in 2009.

I wonder how many went to our "friends" in Mexico, Egypt, Baharin, Saudi Arabia, etc. and were used against innocent civilians.

I can tell you that small arms exports from US firearms manufactures on this report is minor. For one, most small arms are no longer manufactured in the US. Second, any exports on this report would be legal exports. 99.9% of firearms sold domestically by licensed dealers are sold to law abiding people. Manufactures with export licenses sell legally to foreign concerns. What happens beyond that is not my concern.
