    Food for thought ...

After the Japanese decimated our fleet in Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941,
They could have sent their troop ships and carriers directly to California
    To finish what they started.
The prediction from our Chief of Staff was we would not be able to stop a
Massive invasion until they reached the Mississippi River .
Remember, we had a 2 million man army and war ships…...
    All fighting the Germans.
So, why did they not invade?
After the war, the remaining Japanese generals and admirals were asked that question.
    Their answer…...
They know that almost every home had guns and the Americans knew how to use them..
The world's largest army.... America 's hunters!
I had never thought about this....
A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and
    Arrived at a striking conclusion:
There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin ..
Allow me to restate that number.
Over the last several months, Wisconsin 's hunters became the eighth
    Largest army in the world.
More men under arms than in Iran ..
More than in France and Germany combined.
These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt
With firearms, and no one was killed.
That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of
Pennsylvania and Michigan 's 700,000 hunters All of whom have now returned home.
Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally
Establishes the fact that the hunters of those four states alone
Would comprise the largest army in the world.
    The point?
America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of home-grown firepower.
Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security.
That's why all enemies, foreign and domestic, want to see us disarmed.
Food for thought when next we consider gun control.

I've known this for some time, but it is good to see it again on here. The general public does not know where all those guns are, but there is more than likely one or more in their neighbors house right next door.

And now you know why Jefferson and other founding fathers made sure we had the right to keep and bare arms.

That is part of an unsubstantiated quote attributed to Isoroku Yamamoto.

This is a fact that is far removed from most politicians.

Here is a fact...anyone that does not beleive in the right of self defense...is an enemy.

It doesnt matter if its a Republican,Democrat,Conservative,Liberal,Congressm an,Senator, or President.
They only want your guns for one reason and one reason only. They FEAR your ability to kill them if they turn into tyrants that get out of hand. Thats the bottom line.

Its the only true "check" in our system of checks and balances.

Why do you think Hilter registered guns in Germany? It wasnt to keep the citizens of Germany safe. It was to keep him safe.

I would contend that the politicians have already become tyrants that have gotten out of hand...just my opinion.

After reading this thread, I'll bet the powers that be in IL, NY, NJ, and CA will be checking their hunter totals and probably ban hunting.

The problem with those states is that they are pretty much governed by big city beaurcrats that know nothing of guns, hunting or anything outdoorsy.
Chicago dictates the whole state of Ill. NY state is run by NYC. CA has lots of hunting, but they are run by kooks. NJ is run by the mob, although different that the mob that runs Chicago.

Don't say that too loud Hiram. Shhh! I hope they at least do that after Sept. 1. Cause I'm hunting.

And if an invasion were to come, who will the non-2Aers be hiding behind?

Well...the Japanese, to my knowledge, never planned to invade mainland USA. They hoped their blitz attack on Pearl Harbor would be a repeat of what they had done to the Russians a few decades before, and that we would just give up. They wanted us out of the Pacific - not to take over our country, which is a feat they fully realized they could never accomplish with such long supply lines.

Instead, of course, they awoke the sleeping giant that would eventually crush them.

So, I'm not so sure that the presence of an armed populace actually deterred anything.

Now, if the Canadians ever got uppity...

ETA - A better example of an armed (and trained) populace deterring an invasion might be Switzerland, during WWII.

A bit of history correction here...

in 1928, amid political turmoil in Germany, the Weinmar Republic mandated gun registration thruout Germany. All citizens were required by law to register their guns with the local Police.

Ten years later, Hitler orders those gun registration files seized and thru cross reference with Synagogue listings of Jewish families, began disarming all Jews in Germany, Austria and eventually all of occupied Europe.

Our greatest threat to gun owners in the USA is mandatory gun registration.
