I keep leaving incriminating evidence all over the house
I need a new roof. Ugh. I had an estimator over with his trainee. Nice guys. We had a great discussion about how I was going to spend all sorts of money with them. Toward the end, one guy goes, "Well, you can always pay for it by robbing a bank with a gun you got in Seattle"?
"Huh?"
Turns out I had driving directions from the Firearms Academy of Seattle (giant letterhead logo) sitting on my side table. He, of course, said it in jest and we got into a firearms discussion, but dang, I keep leaving incriminating evidence of my shooting adventures around.

I woulda said yeah I could, but then I would need a getaway driver which means I would have to trust somebody besides me and I know I could keep my mouth shut, but not the other guy so I will probably do a lot less prison time if I pay for the roof with a second job delivering pizzas

Eyes should be up on my roof, not down checking out the stuff in my house.. Get out..
Seriously, why was his attention focused on anything but my roof problems. Now granted I'm sometimes called an A-hole but, why *are* you checking out anything in my home but my roof that needs repair?

Well, when you go places, do you put blinders on?
Some people have good SA and notice things. Spotting things becomes second nature. Criminals have good SA as do many other people. I don't assume other people are criminals unless something else about them gives off a bad vibe.
You have to understand, good contractors are all about the small details. That means they pay attention to everything. WIth my Father being a sub-contractor (sheetrocker/drywaller) I grew up around different local contractors. The good ones have a good eye, and spot many things that would surprise you.

I agree with SFury. I notice lots of stuff. I was invited into a customers house and he had a .380 sitting on the coffee table. What surprised me, is he left the room and did not pick up. I asked him before I left and we had a nice discussion on guns.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. We've had a construction project going on in our house since APRIL! The 3-5 guys that were hear on a daily basis darned-near became family.
They saw the stacks and stacks of "guns and ammo" and "Handgun" and "Combat Handgun" magazines in the bathroom. They saw the piles of books with titles like "Fighting Shotguns," "On Killing," "Ground Fighting," etc.
They were hear while I was going through my "Refuse to be a Victim" online course.
They listened to me get phone calls about classes and help people through selecting a firearm, signing up for the correct class, advising on carry permits, etc.
Quite a few times they flat out saw me with a gun on my hip.
They'd have to be deaf, blind and stupid to not figure it out.
I got to do a lot of gun talk with them and found out that all but 2 of the people working on our house already have their carry permits. The head contractor loves talking guns and self defense with me and asks me questions from time to time about the classes I've been to, etc. They are good people... if they weren't I wouldn't have invited them into my home.
And therein, I believe, is the key... talk to people.. make sure that the contractors you are inviting in your home are trustworthy, honest, careful but also tactful, etc.

I love it...I keep all of my magazines in the "library" also.

Conversation stack. Get to know the person, present oneself as a likeable guy with common interest. Sounds like basic sales stuff to me.

While I somewhat agree...you have to admit that a gun does attract special attention.

Its because a gun is taboo for most people that isn't in the "gun world" and as such, people are going to pay special attention to it.

Before going out or inviting anyone inside, always remember to do a quick check for worse-case scenarios and perform any "police-up" action that may be required.
Sadly, it's just a fact of life that little things gone unnoticed will immediately attract the most unfavorable attention regardless of what everyone is supposed to be focused upon or how serious the situation or topic might be.
1. How serious will a presidential statement concerning the national economy, jobs, or impending war be taken by everyone when his fly is open?
2. Which gets more national media coverage on "Dancing With The Stars" - an excellent, flawless, perfectly excuted performance - or a mammary flopping out?
3. How far will romantic prospects go after spending $200 feeding a new date when you don't notice the chunk of spinach lodged between your front teeth?
4. You've given the most important business presentation of your entire career while wearing one black sock and one blue sock?
A rather unscrupulous co-worker of mine regularly uses a very expensive, natural looking, silicone-bodied, ummmmmm "sex doll" (complete with natural wig and dressed in his wife's discarded clothing) as a dummy passenger in his vehicle so he can run the HOV lane on the interstate going to and from work each day. A few months ago, they unconsciously forgot to put "Lulu" away somewhere before some invited dinner guests arrived and instantly noticed "her" sitting in the corner of the front room. All of the explaining done for the rest of the evening did absolutely nothing to quell the "knowing looks" and little snickers that he and his wife still endure to this day.
