Will leaving mags loaded damage them? I leave one mag loaded at all times, will this effect the strength of the spring and not allow the rounds to load properly?
Fully stoked Double Stack magazines should be downloaded by at least one round.
Single Stack magazines can remain fully loaded indefinitely.
The above according to Wolff Gun-springs who know more about the idiosyncrasies of magazine springs than I do since they have been making fine, best quality gun springs on the far side of forever.
Wow! I think it's been 2 months since that question was asked... that has to rank in the Top Ten of FAQ's, I'd say.
And - no disrespect intended toward the OP. It's just an oft-repeated question. We're here to share knowledge, and the dumbest questions are those left unasked.
I am new at this and it is good to know that being fussy is worse than just leaving stuff alone. I don't mean not to practice incessantly with your weapon, but to assume we're all probably not using our tools to the limits of their tolerances.
Not a problem loading a magazine and leaving it loaded. I have had magazines set loaded for several years and work perfectly when used. Which reminds me, I need to take my Mark II out and shoot her, she's been sitting in the safe for quite a while without being shot.
And what others have said. Being under constant pressure won't damage a spring, but cycling will. (loading and unloading) It's the cycling that causes metal fatigue in the springs.
