    My best day on the range was shooting E-Type pop-up silhouettes at 800m (880 yards). 8 targets would pop up with me on the M-24 and 2 team mates on a couple of M249s. I started on the right and they started on the left and worked our way in. I got 6 or 7 every time.

    Did a bunch of 600m shots standing and unsupported with my M4 and 4X ACOG on a target a little larger than man sized. Probably a 75% hit ratio.

    In basic training, I was hitting 800 yards pretty routinely with an M-60. With a rifle, probably 300 yards.

    Just shot (tested for grins) my .30-06 at 600 yards. My first shot was a foot low and left. The next two were inside a 6" circle. My wheelhouse is 400 yards or less, but I know I can hit out to 600.

    I have a 600 yard range here in Michigan that I shoot at about 3 times a month. It was at 300 yards but that got boring with my Remington 700 308 and my Barrett M99A1. Had to push it out to 600 yards by removing some trees. 600 yards on a 16"x16" steel plate is a fun day. I can hit the 300 yard plate with my AR and iron sights. I need to go out and shoot now :)

    Last time out at my buddy's farm, we were shooting bowling pins with my Browning Buckmark .22 4" bbl with open sights from 100 yards. And hitting them. The ground was drier than a popcorn fart, so the dust flying really helped dial in your shots quick.

    Happy belated birthday to both of you gentlemen, by the way, and thank you for your service.

    I also got some time with a Mark 19, and while it is fun, decided to not add it to the poll.

    Hi Buckeye.45;

    I think this continues to be a fun thread.

    It's still amazing how much the "over 1000 yards" catagory has held up. A comparatively large number of folks are shooting a "fur piece" out there.

    Man, I'm the little schoolgirl around here. A measly 100 meters with a borrowed M16A1 (thanks Uncle Sam) and it sure looked like a long distance to me back then!

    I agree, it is a fun thing to know. Right about half are under 300, and then the other half is further out than that. A fair amount of the longer distance does seem to be from military experience, like my own. Which is to be expected, because in the Marines for example, everyone has to shoot out to 500 yards to qualify.

    But, there seems to be a good number of people who also get to shoot at long distance outside of the military (like yourself). I think if there was a way to map it, that the longer distance shooters tend to shoot in the area between the two mountain ranges, where facilities that allow such shots are more common.
