Took my wife's Taurus 85 to the range yesterday to zero the CT. I set it up so line of sight was line of fire. Red dot where I was aiming. Aimed center mast, probably 20 feet, fired about 25 rounds, all hit upper left on the target. Using an NRA B-8, 25 yard pistol target. So I then aimed lower right corner and all my hits were in the black!
My question, is there a way to adjust the sights or have them adjusted? Or should I just adjust the CT to lower right? I figure this is a home defense gun only and she will probably never aim. So my thought is to adjust the CT so where she points the red dot it hits.
Make sense? Thanks.
I should mention I also fired my S&W 637, no CT, all hits were in the black.
To my knowledge there is no way to adjust the sights on the Model 85. Just curious, did you bore sight it and set the CT to that position, did you try shooting it off a rest to see if the POA/POI were the same, or was it all done off hand shooting?
Adjusting sights on a revolver with fixed sights requires a talented gunsmith. Adjusting elevation is a matter of removing or adding material to the front sight, but you're probably better off trying different loads to see what comes closest to your point of aim. Adjusting windage is a bit more crude, and involves a dead blow hammer to "adjust" the relative alignment of the barrel to the frame.
How did the M85 shoot (POA vs POI) before you introduced high-tech sights? Seems to me there's more adjustment possible with the laser than with the gun.
Sheesh, the POA vs POI is off. I am aiming center mass and hitting upper left, probably up by 2" and left by 2". Aiming utilizing the sight groove and sight blade would have no impact on where the CT hit.
The POA used was center mass, both with the hard sight and the CT, so I'm thinking the POA is off on the gun. I use the same sight picture with my S&W and I'm hitting where I'm aiming.
So, not wanting to spend any bucks to send the gun back etc I'll just adjust the CT POA to the lower right and that will bring the POI center mass.
Thanks for the replies.
