Two of Bonnie & Clyde's guns up for auction, BRING BIG $$$
Bonnie and Clyde's guns up for auction in Missouri... | Stuff.co.nz
The .45-calibre 1921 Thompson submachine gun is better known as a "Tommy gun," commonly depicted in movies and crime lore. It and an 1897 12-gauge Winchester shotgun will be sold by Mayo Auction & Realty in Kansas City.
On April 13, 1933, police raided a Joplin, Missouri apartment where Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were hiding. Two officers died in the shootout. Bonnie and Clyde escaped.
A police officer gave the weapons to Mark Lairmore, a Tulsa police officer at the time, and they have remained in the family ever since, according to an account posted on the Mayo website.

that's cool. I imagine the tax stamp on an auto Thompson won't look so bad after as much as those would sell for.
I would rather buy a few full auto guns with my money.

Was this on History Detectives a while back? I remember catching part of it and this sounds familiar.

Bonnie and Clyde were killed not too far from where I live. The spot was pretty much in the middle of no-where and that remains true today. Of course the road has widened and has been paved. The nearest town, is Gibsland LA, a small quiet town that now houses the Bonnie and Clyde Museum, and yearly festival/reenactment. The building that is now the museum, was at the time of B&C, contained a cafe. That cafe was the last known stop for B&C before they were killed. That morning Clyde went inside and ordered two sandwiches to go, they were probably killed about 10 minutes later.
Ted Hinton was one of the lawmen in the group involved in the stake-out that killed them. His son, "Boots", is the museum manager, and the last living child of any of the lawmen.
When I was a kid one of our neighbors was a young boy from Arcadia LA, and saw the car when it was towed there that day. Back in the '80s I saw the actual car once when it was on tour. At one time there were quite a few fakes. The original car is on display at a casino, along with Clydes shirt he was wearing at the time he was killed; the casino acquired the shirt for 85K, and the car for 250K twenty (?) years ago. I'd guess the casino would bid on the guns?
Ted Hinton's son told me that most of the guns etc found at the scene are on display at the Texas Ranger Museum. He also told me that Clyde was probably killed by a head shot at the very onset of the shooting; Bonnie had more GSW than Clyde due to her postion next to Clyde.
Without the notoriety, the Thompson is worth around 25K and the '97 is worth around $500? Any guesses on what the Thompson and '97 will bring in this auction?

Not only did Clyde Barrow like the Thompson, he also was rather fond of the Ford V-8 engine and the Browining Automatic Rifle. He had two of them with the stock and barrels cut down so they could be hidden underneath clothing.
He also put a sling on them that looks very much like what SWAT teams use on their AR's and M-16's.
Bonnie used the BAR too. On one occasion, she blasted away at some Law Officer. She never hit the law man involved but he later commented that the "little red head showered him with splinters from the tree he hid behind with that rifle."

The lawmen waited out in the woods for a couple of days (IIRC), it looked like a false lead, and that morning they agreed to stay until a designated time (that I don't remember), about 15 minutes before the agreed on time, they heard a car coming in the distance. Ted Hinton knew Clyde when they were kids and I believe that is why he was in Louisiana, to help ID Clyde when necessary. They recognized the sound of Clyde coming, he was known to be an aggressive driver. The sound the car was making, sounded like Clydes style of driving. When Clyde was shot, killed instantly, his foot apparently came off the clutch and the car lurched forward as if they were getting away again. The lawmen, nearly in a panic, fired at it again, sort of at the rear. The car traveled about 100+ feet then eased over to the ditch in the opposite lane, stalled and stopped. They couldn't get Clydes door open at the time, the latch mechanism didn't work due to the gun fire. Ted Hinton, went around to Bonnies side and opened the door, she literally fell out into his arms as she drew her last breath. He propped her back up in her seat and leaned her towards Clyde's body.
They sent for a "tow truck", of course some time passed while they waited on it, as word spread a lot of people gathered at the scene. The lawmen left the bodies inside the car and had it towed to Arcadia. On the way the tow truck became overheated and they stopped at the schoolhouse in Gibsland to get water for the radiator. The students were dismissed from their classes to go outside, stand on the running boards, and look inside at the bodies. IOW, this is how you'll wind up if you lead a "life of crime" . Boy have things changed huh?
BTW the old schoolhouse is gone, but another newer school exists on that same spot.

In order for an Individual / Trust / Entity to take possession, the machine gun would have to have been lawfully registered before May 19, 1986.

My two old miniature Dachshunds' names are Bonnie and Clyde. No relationship and they don't own any guns...
