A sign of the times (I hope!)

Had to stop in at the Patrick AFB BX yesterday and, lo and behold, in the sporting goods section is a brand new display counter with racks for handguns and long guns. I haven't seen that in a stateside BX since I entered in '71 (Did see it overseas) and that it happened in FL where hunting isn't near as accessible as other states surprised me even more. The guns and ammo aren't arriving until February but the wall displays were filled with spare magazine for a fairly wide assortment of handguns and rifles, cleaning kits and supplies, holsters, and a host of other goodies.

Hopefully this is a sign of improving military views of firearm sales in the BX. I can't wait to see what the prices are like. Probably not that much of a discount other than the saving on sales taxes. There is hope after all.

How can they sell them if you are not allowed to even have them on base?

When they remodeled the BX here at Seymour Johnson AFB they added a firearms counter. When you buy a firearm it must be immediately taken off base if you do not reside on base. I did pick up my Centennial Colt 1911 there for $1100.

If you reside in base housing you may store them there after registering them with Security Police, those that live in the barracks must store them in the armory.
