Read about it in my American Rifleman a year or two back.

    Pretty neat invention.

I knew about it and had seen a few documentaries on it before. Still an amazing device. There are now current air rifles on the market that shoot .38 sized projectiles. The mechanics are a little different, but the premise the same. Check out the new fangled edition.

I knew about the gun but didn't realize it's importance to the journey. It is interesting to speculate if these rifles had been more widely adopted, esp. by the military. Say if Lee had them at Gettysburg? 40+ large caliber repeated fire.....

Saw a video about it a year or so ago. I think American Rifleman also had an article about it a year or so back.

    Thumbs up

I guessed the rifle that you were referring to, before I clicked on the link.

I knew of this from my days working as a surveyor, but never had seen it. Thanks very much for that piece of history. Undaunted Courage is more than worth the read if you see a copy.
