thanks for the information and review. I've pretty much given up on Duracoat as I've had a couple of guns that showed holster wear in about a month. Not a Duracoat fan. The Ceracote looks to be a much better option.

    thanks again.

Duracoat has it's place, but on high usage/high wear firearms it's not all that durable. Here's some test results published by Cerakote.

They commissioned these tests which seem to be well done.

While Cerakote isn't as tough as something like Nickel Boron, it's about as tough as you'll get for a painted on finish. Manufacturers are starting to use Cerakote I've noticed, especially custom gun makers like GA Precision.

Super review! Would have liked to have seen this video before I went for it. I just had a few months ago, my Norinco 1911 .45 Cerakoted their Sniper Gray with the controls done in Armorers Black. Cost way more than I paid for the pistol for sure, Cerakote, breakdown of the pistol included, $135. Wish I chose another color, looks parkerized, but holding up great. No wear seen yet on metal/metal parts. Looks great, no scuffs, scratches, cleans up nice. Put a set of diamond, black rubber coated grip panels on it. Call it my Stealth Pistol. I'll do it again on something else. The Bronze seems to be a popular choice around here. I know, but it doesn't look like the bronze color you have in your head. Didn't mean to hijack the thread, sorry.

I stripped the rifle down completely and shipped it directly to Cerakote, this generally saves money as you don't have to pay their gunsmith to strip it down and reassemble it. All said and done it was right at $200 for everything.

Here are some post testing pictures of the rifle after I've cleaned it up a bit. This should give you an idea of how the finish held up to everything.

Here's the hammer and bolt stop, the areas with the most wear which to me is to be expected:

    Here's the bolt/carrier:

    Here's the brass deflector:

Here's the left side of the receiver that I rubbed up against the tree (yes, the serial number has been removed in the image) and also the side you saw in the video after being removed from the salt bath:

500 rounds fired, all Brown Bear .223 steel cased ammo without any lubrication.
