Man cleaning gun NDs through hand, kills wife
Brunswick County woman accidentally shot, killed | WWAY NewsChannel 3 | Wilmington NC News
They say it appears a man was cleaning his gun when it went off. A relative says the man was emptying the gun when it fired. Investigators say the bullet hit the man in the hand before hitting Samantha Reynolds, 20, in the abdomen. Reynolds later died at the hospital.

How sad!
Rule #1 All guns are always loaded.
Rule #2 Don't let the muzzle of the gun cross anything you don't intend to shoot. (refer to Rule #1 for the reason).
"Gun Free Zones" is where only criminals carry guns.

I don't understand. He is emptying the gun,a round goes through his hand and into another person? Something sounds strange.

Perhaps he realized his error and tried to CATCH the bullet.

Was the loaded gun being cleaned or unloaded? Guns don't normally go bang accidentally.

Even with Glock type pistols that require that the striker system be fired before field stripping ,how you get your hand in front of the muzzle just eludes me.Definitely negligent discharge and could very well be charged with involuntary manslaughter since the muzzle of the gun had to of been pointed at her

Incidents like this are why I feel signs should have force of law. People might not want guns in there shop and this is why. It might harm someone else and they should be allowed to do what they feel in order to proven tragedy like this.

I think "I was just cleaning the weapon" is akin to claims such as; "I didn't realize I was speeding" and "I swear I thought she was eighteen."
