S&W 27
My uncle has started to sell off some of the guns he never uses. He has, if I remember correctly, an older S&W Model 27. I'm not sure if it is a 27 maybe you guys can tell me. Its a blued 45LC and looks an awful lot like a 29. It's in nearly mint condition and hasn't been shot much. Plus it has the best trigger on any gun I'm ever held. I would like to buy it before someone else does. And he is selling it for $425, is this a fair price?
I'm sure it is considering he is the fairest man I know and always treats me right. He sold me his near mint Sig 220 for $550 and lets me make payments when I have the money.

If 45LC it won't be a M27 - that is 38/357.
The M29 does yes look very similar - both being N frames.
Also on an N frame is M25 for .45acp.
I forget right now what this might be if .45LC but - open crane and look under on frame near pivot point and see if there is a model number.
Regardless - if this is a minty older N frame from Smith then the price sounds very realistic and attractive. Check out the type and get a pic if at all possible.

Chris is right, check on the crane for a model number.
Smith & Wesson produced the Model 25-5 in .45 Colt in 1978 with 4, 6 or 8 3/8 inch barrels. Prior to that, they made the model 25-3 Anniversary Edition and the model 25-4 Deluxe Anniversary Edition, both in 1977 with short cylinders (the model 25-5 had the long cylinder).
The 25-5 should have a serial number with an "N" prefix. The 25-3 & 25-4 have serial numbers with an "S&W" prefix.

Yep, CC is right. I just called him and he said it was a 25-5. I have only handled it once, about 2 months ago and it believe it had a 6 in barrel. It's still available and I'll give him a deposit as soon as I can.

So M25-5 eh - well you are getting a nice deal for a very nice gun.
As Terry reminded me now - of course the .45LC was included in some of the 25 production - I tend to only think of it as the acp.
You will love that gun

It has some upgraded springs installed in the gun to reduce and smooth the trigger pull. But, it comes with the original springs to make it original if I want and knowing my uncle it will come with the original box and papers too. And the blueing is so deep an beautiful. I can't wait.

I have two 25-5's. A 6" and a 8 3/8". That 6" is the most accurate handgun I've ever shot. Just a wonderful piece.
