Mosin-Nagant
I have the chance to buy a Mosin-Nagant from a friend at work. I am not entirely sure which model it is but it has never been fired and he is going to throw in 500 rounds of 7.62x54mmR ammo all for $180. I have no experience whatsoever with these rifles, are they any good? It sure seems like a good deal but again I don't know a thing about these rifles.

Take it! They are just plain fun. And they have a pretty good kick to them also. Good wall hanger if you don't use it a lot. 500 rounds will last a while. Not something you want to shoot all day.

Before you commit, check to see what J&G gets for a Mosin these days.

Well, they're not making any more of 'em... both the guns and the ammo have only gotten pricier. I got two hex-receiver M-Ns and 840 rounds from J&G 4 years ago and got change back from $200. Likewise, my Swiss K-31 carbines have more than tripled in value since I got 'em in '05. You won't lose money on tghe deal, so strike while the iron is hot!

This is not a good deal!!!! Run from this deal as fast as you can and PM me with your buddy's number. I wouldn't let you by this gun, so I will make a $200 offer just to make it right. LOL Buy it and have a blast. Every old guy at the range will (like me) will want to look at it and tell you stories about the 98 Mauser he should have bought for $10 back in 1970.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

Nonsense!
I shoot mine the most out of all of my rifles. The most I've done in one session was 120, but the average is around 60-80 rounds. And this is all standing and sitting, no bench.
Once you get it, I'll send you one of my Red Army Choir CDs to play while you clean it.

Mosins make great hunting rifles too, if you'r into that. Its capable of taking any game in America, you just have to get close enough. I connected at 300 plus with mine.

Don't do it........they multiply and take up all the room in your safe. I started with one from Big 5 and now have several including M44's and M38's. Dangerous habit. Be careful.
Don't tread on me or mine.
I am comfortable laying on a rock in the sun; bothering no one. If you choose to ignore the above statement, you will wish all you had to do, is deal with a snake.

Yes very dangerous habit. Mine keep growing and they are long rifles so they only have certain places to be stored. $90.00 30 caliber rifle is hard to beat.

I got one just because they were so cheap ($100 on sale at Cabelas) and wanted an old style gun for the collection. So I did the complete breakdown and took it to the range not really expecting much. After I got done with a mere 20 rounds I was in love. That thing was just fun to shoot. Not sure what it was. It was heavy as hell but pretty accurate at 15 yards

I love mine...have a 91/30 from Tula in '43 and it's great. I think he is basically giving you the full retail on the gun, though. So you might want to wheel and deal a bit. But if he's a friend maybe not, and it's not a terrible deal and no 4473 to fill out.
