Other than possession of the firearm in Chicago (not sure if Greyhound moves your checked bags for transfers, or allows them in checked luggage), sounds like he should have been covered by FOPA until he went stupid and ditched the gun. Also sounds like Greyhound personnel, although alert, were a little overzealous in investigating the man's actions.
A man was arrested after trying to board a Greyhound bus with a gun in the South Loop early this morning, police said.
Bus station personnel became suspicious when they saw the man leave the station at 630 W. Harrison St. around 1:30 a.m. with a black leather bag after it was announced that passengers would be undergoing a security check, police said.
When they checked outside, they found the black bag and an unloaded handgun in a trash can. The man told officer he had tried to get rid of the gun, police said.
The man told police he had traveled to Chicago from Lansing, Mich. and was switching buses on his way to California, police said.
