This is a discussion on Trade Ruger LCP for S&W 642? within the General Firearm Discussion forums, part of the Related Topics category; Buddy made me an offer - he wants my LCP with 2 mags and holster for his 642 J-Frame, holster and speed strips.
Round count ...
I'd trade in a heartbeat...but I'm also partial to short barrel revolvers. Tried an LCP, and my hands are just too thick for it. Feels like an M80 going off in my hand (ask me how I know that feeling).
Have shot LCPs and have owned and fired about 1500 rounds through a Kel Tec P3AT, from which the LCP was patterned, since late 2005. Have had a Model 642 since 1998.
I'd rather have the Model 642 for sure. If I was selling off guns then the small .380 automatic would be gone long before the Model 642.

Sounds like a good trade IMO. The J frame is pocketable in cargos and some lose fitting jeans, so I'd go for it. Slap a crimson trace grip on that 642 and you got yourself one heck of a good revolver. I love my J frames and would highly recommend one to anyone. Some folks don't like um and that's their prerogative, IMO they have their place in the lineup and are just as easy to conceal as any small/tiny auto. Oh' and the .38 special round is a good defense round no matter how you slice it.
If the offer to trade is still open, take it. I've got a J frame 36 S&W bobbed hammer DAO I often carry in a pocket holster in my back pocket. There are a jillion .38 spec. loads available. The 642 is an alloy gun, so I'd suggest a lighter load to begin with. My LCP is the same size as my Beretta 21a, but the Jframe 36 or 642 will handle 158 gr lead semi wad cutters.
