What the hell did I do!!!

Been with my wife 26 years, married for 23. Day one, my wife hated guns with a passion. I grew up with them having my first 870 at 10 and my first 22 target handgun at 12. After we got married we lived in Oaklawn illinois for a few years and built a home in Mokena....lived there 5 years and then moved down state.

While in Oaklawn I obtained an FFL and then was interviewed by the Chicago Tribune. Apparently Oaklawn had only two gun shops in town but had close to 100 FFLs. They were curious to know how that could be. Still had no issue with ATF approving it. Long story short...it was a constant battle with my wife with guns. I could never convince her to even hold one let alone talking her into going to the range.

Well, after all that time and persistent nagging I finally was able to drag her to the range. I did some smithing on the extractor in my M&P 15-22 and told her I needed someone to fire it while I observed the extraction pattern of the rounds...which was actually true. I also took out my M&P 22 to allow her to try something lighter. Here are her results at 7 yards.

Not sure what changed but my wife hasn't stopped talking about it since. She won't shut up. Now she wants to take a class and then get her Florida CCW. She is making range plans through the end of the year. She is bragging to family and friends that she is a better shot than me. She also wants to work the Youth Firearms Camp with me next month.

Don't know what you did, but apparently you did it well!

You know what you did. Sneaky but effective. You just showed her how much fun the shooting sports can be.

My experience was a little different. Took my wife to the range for the first time about 15 years ago. She squeezed off 6 rounds on a .38, complained her wrist hurt and has never had any interest since.

At least she doesn't mind me shooting.

Be VERY VERY cautious. Any time a wife agrees with you it is going to be VERY costly!!

Ok, well, enough of that mushy stuff, teach her well!

I guess I am thankful. My wife is my best friend and all I wanted was her understanding. But I think I just gained a range buddy. 😄. For some guys, this is a dream come true.

Nope. Only state left that doesn't allow it. We travel a lot and many states allow Non-res Florida CCW. Was in Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, and Florida already in June.

Oh yeah. Buckle your seatbelt. After she buys 2-3 guns, ammo, extra mags, 2 holsters that she'll want to upgrade soon, range bag, eye cover, 3 types of hearing protection, fancy glowy green targets, extra mags, speed strips, and what not....then it'll be time for accessories. Believe me, I know this to be true.

No different than you and I but it happens over the course of months, not years. Better think strategically.....if you want a new one, mows the time. Get a twofer sale.
