A violent, totalitarian government (in the past 70+ yrs) considering opening up the lawful right of the people to carry defensive arms? Sounds like a positive step, no matter how you slice it. Good for the people who've pressured their governing few to open their eyes.

Not to take the focus off Russia but if it works out for them (including the idea of just taking this step) maybe it could be a posative step against anti gun sheep all over the world

I hope they get it. I just hope they do not have to pay a price for the freedom they want...

We have enough of their weapons. Maybe it's time for them to have the chance to play with some of ours.

EXCESSIVE SELF-DEFENSE? If I'm put in the position of needing to defend myself, this would probably happen at least until the threat is removed.

Hey at least a shotgun for home defense is a real step in the right direction.

True QK, but maybe they're only allowed to have birdshot.

I hate to get shot with birdshot especially in the head or groin area...
The police are not there to protect you from crime, they are there to arrest the guy after the crime has been committed, assuming they find him. It is your responsibility to protect yourself and your family.

I really hope this passes. my girlfriend is a citizen of Lithuania and until the late 1980's her entire world was controlled by the Russian government. Even though Lithuania is free from russian rule now, its still really hard to own weapons> this would be a HUGE step in the right direction for our Russian fellow firearms enthusiasts

I'd hate to get shot with birdshot anywhere. While it's stopping power is often debated, there's no question that it makes some really nasty wounds (and I try my darnedest to avoid those)

Agreed, but what i would hate more is rock salt. birdshot comes out and the pain goes away relatively quickly *due to drugs they give you after a gunshot* but rocksalt!? that will hurt for MONTHS haha
