She called it an "assault rifle" and I had to correct her on that and explain that the weapon that he used was just like a semi auto rifle that just doesn't look like a military type. She didn't know that it wasn't full auto and I couldn't emphizize that too much and stated that the press is spreading the wrong information about the weapon so I'm sure she made sure that lady knew that.

she never fired a weapon before today and seemed to be hooked. She really seemed all about our rights, when she asked me what I thought of those who think that no one should have a weapon and I replied "well that is their right to say that, however I wish they would use their right to try and take away mine" She really seemed like someone that opened up to the idea.

Makes you wonder how many in the "food chain" (above the reporter's job) won't warm to a pro-gun stance. Highly variable, depending on the organization, but likely to be a tough road for a young reporter. One of the "truths" she'll learn soon enough, no doubt. Still, it's heartening to see what a reasonable discussion with a reasonable citizen can do.

That's the probability that my local news would ever attempt to present a balanced view on gun rights/legislation/restrictions.

I would have liked to have seen a statement along the lines of "those supporting gun sales have little to no experience with guns or gun issues... most are simply reacting emotionally to the events in Colorado... very few have thought through all the issues"
