The heat in the car will not cause it to go off. However if it slips into your seat track and you mash it with the seat, you can cause it to go off. Remember a 22 is ignited with a strike on the rim of the cartridge, there is no primer cap in it.

I grew up in the heat of the Arizona desert, shot guns since I was old enough to remember. We left all kinds of ammo in our vehicles. From 22 bullets to shotgun shells from dove season. We have even left shotgun shells in our boat for 3 or 4 years, through summers and winters of the AZ desert. Nothing is going to happen.
As a matter of fact, that is how we knew we were low on ammo... we had to go digging through the trucks to find enough for that days hunting trip.

Hmmmm you notice the spelling but not the fact that we are talking about a bullet exploding? I regularly throw bullets into my melting pot and have never seen one explode. Smacked one with a hammer all it did was squish it.

Don't worry. You are far more likely to blow a fuse and while looking at it find the stray .22 round, use it for a makeshift fuse and shoot yourself in the leg several miles down the road than you are to have the ambient heat cause it to go bang. Take appropriate precautions. :)

The only solution is to immediately sell the car or take it to the local wrecking yard. Do not wait.

So, Tex, who was holding your beer while you did this?

Like the way you think, face your fears head on.

A bullet without a barrel to contain the force....is a hyped up fire cracker. It must have a strong barrel surrounding it to contain the blast and propel the round more than moot :-)

One of the bullets fell in between my seat and I can't find it. I've done everything except taking the seat off while looking for it.
So here's my hypothetical question, what's the worst thing that could come of me leaving it there? Like exploding from getting to hot in the car?

    Just curious,

Nice choice. Don't worry about the bullet, it won't fire and will turn up sooner or later.
