If we are going general like plinking, hunting, hiking, home defense, it would be my Smith and Wesson 65 .357 with a 4" barrel. I can shoot light .38s for target and small game hunting, load up 125gr .357 for defense and load 158gr SJSP .357s for deer. Not to mention, there are a lot less parts, and magazines are not a necessity to run it.

If we were talking pure fighting, XD9 all the way. Reliable, accurate and good capacity.

if I could only keep one it would be my 44 mag. It will do anything I need a handgun to do, and most things I need a rifle to do, and in the event where a set of circumstances developed that only allowed me to have one firearm, I'd be out in the sticks, hid out with my family, and concealment would be on the bottom of my list of concerns.

I've had a 19 year relationship with my G19, its birthday is 6/16/93. We've been to 30 states, numerous national parks, weddings, barbecues, vacations and various other activities. Shoots everthing I feed it and still looks and operates like I pulled it out of the box. Quite possibly the most reliable thing I've ever purchased!

Seeing as I have no desire to only own one gun I bought a G19 and a GP100 this week.

My landlord set up a nice worktable in the basement. Looks like a countertop mounted to the wall with some 2x4 supports. Need to start getting my loading equipment back together.

Lot of wheel guns. I distinctly remember more glocks last time this thread popped up.

I'll add to the wheelie frenzy myself....

I've had a love-love relationship with my 3" SP101 for two years, and it gets way more carry time than it was intended to get. It was the reason I started reloading, which lead to more reloading, and more expense, and a reason to buy a SRH 44 mag, and more dies, and more components, and more........

dangit....that McGilvrey feller done ruint me

6 inch GP100. All the versatility I'd need, and simple to boot. I'm not sure of the kind of scenario the OP has in mind that would limit us to one handgun, but if it's severe, you can count on common caliber ammo, parts and magazines to get rather scarce.

If a simple election can make 9/40/45 ammo vanish from the stores, I can only imagine if serious issues hit.

If I could only keep one it would be my S&W 638 without a doubt.
