    Good show good books

While I enjoy the shows and the books, Craig Johnson is not a gun guy. Longmire carries "The big Colt" because that is what he got used to in the Marines. The numerous errors in the books on guns do irritate me but I still enjoy both.

Yep, just enjoy the show for what it is since the devil is in the details. Aside from some hardcore gun aficionados, nobody who watches will notice the difference anyway since they are following the story line and not looking to see how he wears a pistol or loads magazines. OTOH, I hate it when I watch a show that is OBVIOUSLY incorrect in its use of firearms, like civil war soldiers shooting '73 Colt Peacemakers or Custer's men using Winchester 94's at the Little Bighorn. It would be like watching a WWII movie and our soldiers were using M-16's and driving Hummers.

Living in WY it's been pushed on the local news even though it's not shot here. I like it.

Where ever it is shot at, I wish they could get that orange/brown tint corrected. Every show I have seen looks like it was filmed just before dusk or right at dawn - night scenes notwithstanding.

Hollywood prop model 1911. Just watched one episode and thought it was entertaining. Way way too many commercials.

I have been watching it; yea they are WRONG on a lot of gun stuff and there have been some holes in a couple of the story lines, but heck it beats the crap out of all the "reality" shows that seem to dominate TV now.

I do think the Longmier character is perfect to play out an old joke.....

Longmier walks into a county council meeting and some old bitty walks up to him and says "Well sheriff I see you brought your pistol with you; are you expecting trouble"?

Longmier about half distracted looking around the room says "No mam; if I were expecting trouble I'da brought my rifle".

So what were the problems with the archery part? Other than Omar sticking his foot in it again calling Vic "Victoria".

I think that part of the problem was the notion that with very little practice, anyone could make an accurate shot from 40 meters with a compound bow. I think not. At least I couldn't. They get a lot of stuff wrong on the show: the gun stuff, the law stuff, but it's still a good show. The Longmire character is what makes it.

I'm sure they did a lot of research on how deputies dress & wear their gunbelt as well.

Yep, uncomfortable to do. Besides the 1911, also tend to pay attention when easing the hammer down on the revolvers (and specifically the Ruger Super Blackhawk .44).

I just found the show last week (I'm a news junky) and TiVo got me all the episodes in one week. Yes just entertainment.

I do like how the Dufis Deputy polished out all of the dents in the Bronco by the last episode...........

You can watch it OnDemand with no commercials or like I do, I DVR it and watch it the next day with the ability to fast forward thru the commercials. 44minutes long w/o the commercials.
