"Why do you carry a (1911 variant) .45?" is a question often asked by folks who favor; lighter guns, smaller guns, lesser-caliber guns, more modern guns, polymer-framed guns, double-action guns, higher capacity guns, even revolving guns and wish to start a debate. The answer - "Because they don't make a .46" , while over-simplifed & technically incorrect, is a glib one-liner curtly saying that if I have to explain to you, you still won't understand it.

The .45 ACP 230 grain load was long ago designed by the military specifically for setting your opposition on his butt right now, not as some caliber adapted for SD use. It worked then; it still works now. I'll stand by it.

I think it came about before the other calibers came on the market. Some sayings/things just hang on.
