When that saying first came out the 45 caliber was the biggest handgun cartridge and yes it was bigger diameter than the 44 magnum,in later years they invented bigger calibers so the saying isn't actually true in todays world
If they made a .50GI for the G30, then I think I would want that:
The one I posted.
I thought you were talking about ammo in an earlier post, it was my understanding that .45 Colt was for revolvers and .45 ACP was for pistols.
If that's not correct, I'll admit to being wr... wr... wr... not as right as I thought. :) However I'm not aware of any 1911 pistol that fires 45 Colt ammo.
I've since made my own... which also won't hold true once the 9mm and .40 are available.
I still think it is a funny saying!

It makes no sense to you because, you don't know the origin of the comment. You can bet your rearend Texas Ranger Joaquin Jackson didn't carry it because he felt unmanly without one. He'd be the same Texas Ranger carrying a 9mm, .38, or whatever flavor he felt like.
Correct, the .45 Colt cartridge is for revolvers, leveractions etc., but that isn't what I said, nor did you, you said "Well, that 1911 in the photo isn't a Colt .45 either." Neither I nor the poster you pictured said anything about .45 Colt, you said it wasn't a Colt .45, nobody mentioned anything about the .45 Colt cartridge but you. I wanted to know how you knew the pistol pictured in your post wasn't a Colt .45, is what I asked.Quote:
Well, that 1911 in the photo isn't a Colt .45 either
No, that's not what I responded to...
I responded to this:
"Texas Ranger Joaquin Jackson who spent the later part of his illustrious career looking after the harsh, massive Texas Big Bend Country, packed a Colt .45"
However I somehow missed the word 'auto' after it, and took it as .45 Colt for whatever reason, that's all, nothing more... Not worth as many posts as there's been about the comment, but hopefully everything is squared away now.
My point remains, the little slogan is no longer valid - although cute.
Reminds me of the idiotic Chevy vs. Ford vs. Dodge trucks stuff
How so? It's not a caliber war, my point is the the saying is no longer valid.
I get the point, and the origin, it's cute, funny, whatever, but it's basically saying I carry a .45 because there's nothing bigger to carry... well, now there is.
FWIW, I carry .45 so this isn't a knock on the .45, only the folks who continue saying they carry a .45 because they don't make a .46
It is still a valid saying, if we take into account the 45acp is the largest caliber commonly carried by people today.
I mean sure, they make a 50 caliber, but how many people carry that? And it's not something you would just easily find at Walmart.
So, keeping things in a real world perspective, it is the biggest.
