If you don't already have a .22 LR rifle, then buy the 10/22. There's v-e-r-y few things more valuable than trigger-time. Without a .22, trigger-time can get expensive. But be careful in the 10/22 customizing game. Like Ram Rod said, it's a slippery-slope to spending more than a brand-new, factory-fresh, MUCH nicer rifle* costs. (*I ended up selling all three of my 10/22 customs & bought a new Volquartsen Superlite.) But ya' gotta' have a rimfire rifle, ya' just gotta'!
