We need to assume nothing, given the overwhelmingly unfavorable comments regarding the choices offered.

The fact that anyone on this board voted for any of the above says volumes about the membership here. But I think many of us already suspected...

I'm interested in the 'results' you got on the other forum.

I just joined today. I looked at the results of the poll ( I did not vote, no option for me) You are right, I am a little surprised.

I also consider private sales to be between two individuals, in which case there should be NO restrictions, so long as the seller has no reason to believe the buyer can't own a firearm.

that's why we need background checks for all gun sales, so we know that the guy is as honest and law-abiding as he claims.

Would you require that for sales of things that can be used as part of an explosive? What about gun powder? Anything can be used for illegal purchases.

most Americans support some restrictions on Freedom of Speech & Assembly, such as protest permits in order to take over a sidewalk or highway, and not allowing folks to protest in a public park indefinitely. I apply such reasonable logic to gun-regulations.

You mean gun rights that should not be infringed upon right?
But back to your idea of checks on private sales...can you answer why you would not need background checks on primers, gun powder, other things that can be used to go boom?

Nothing in the First Amendment allows anyone to "take over" anything. It only states our right to express ourselves. Likewise, 2A confirms our right to "keep and bear arms" in order to maintain a well-regulated militia. Anything else is subjective. A civilized society is a regulated society. Where to draw the lines becomes the issue.

just a Constitutional-literalist would argue that ALL gun regulations are illegal, ALL regulations upon political speech & political assembly are illegal......meaning that a group can protest whenever they like, wherever they like, however they like, for as long as they like.

but of course, society would drive to a hault if we allowed such things. That's why we have protest permits. And that same logic applies to gun regulations.

The first amendment is often restricted... and it is often totally misunderstood. (Notice what it actually says about the "separation of church and state" and what most people seem to think it says.) However it also is lacking a clause that is found in the second amendment. Nowhere does it say that your right to free speech may not be infringed, but the second amendment does make that as clear as possible.
