I saw this for sale and I was wondering if it was legal or not. It is classified as a pistol, but it has a foregrip on it. I had always though if you had a grip on the front of a pistol it needed an AOW license. Does anyone know about these Thompsons?
I don't think it will fit well in a Crossbreed IWB. As for legality? Don't know.
Legal for what and where? Shoot, sell, buy, or own? Is it full auto or semi? Gun laws are so screwd up, need a lot more information to answer conclusively.
To be honest as far as I can tell a pistol can't have a fore grip without the tax stamp,that includes the AR/AK style pistols
I guess it would depend on your local and state laws and ordinances. It become such a tangled mess with these laws when it comes to these types of guns. Check with your LGS, they should know.
I would call that an AOW all day long.
You can legally attach a Magpul AFG to an AR/AK pistol, but that one looks pretty "vertical" to me.
It has "semi automatic pistol" stamped on the receiver. With the vertical foreward grip does it have to have the AOW tax stamp?

The BATFE considers them pistols, Thompson sells them as pistols.
But Auto Ordinance, who to the best of my knowledge is the main maker of modern Tommy's, doesn't have any pistols with the VFG. They all just have the wooden handguard.Quote:

That's not a foregrip. It's a towel and robe hook. After a long day of pretending I'm Pretty Boy Floyd, I like to use my Tommy to hang up things to dry out.

My plan is to get all the numbers off the gun and contact Auto Ordinance. If it was built that way and it is legal to own it without a tax stamp I'll buy it like that. If it has to have the stamp, I'll make sure it has a horizontal grip on it before it comes into my possession. AO sells the horizontal grip for $50.
If its a AOW, the stamp is only $5, also if the thing is over 26inches, its not a pistol anymore, its a firearmQuote:
