Whats a good offer for a Mossberg maverick 88?

Hey guys I've been wanting to get myself a shotgun for a while as my next purchase. Just so happens that a guy I used to work for has a Mossberg Maverick 88 18/18.5" barrel? Lightly used and pretty sure he also has the butt stock w/ it. I was just curious what do you think would be a fair offer?
I see them from $217-280 on the internet, and he said he recalled he got it new for $350.. which he could be wrong. I was going to call the LGS tomorrow and see what they go for new there.

    thanks

    I wouldn't pay more than 200 for a used one. I just wouldn't.

**EDIT: BTW, they're $199 before tax, tag, and title at Dicks and Academy pretty regularly.

A normal Mossberg 500 persuader may go for about $350 new, but not a Maverick 88.

$200 would be my top dollar, $175 would be more reasonable.

The 88s I've seen lately have sold around $150 to $175 used.

What they all said. I did not like the Maverick 88. Felt cheap to me. I would save for a 500 or 590 personally, but its right about double the price of the 88.

Thanks everyone. I did not mind the quality. I just like the fact that I can get a base with a simple tested and true working design that is cheap and build from there.
Down the road I'd like to own a nice benelli!

Only thing I have against the 88 is the safety. Its the push-thru type down near the trigger rather than on top of the reciever like the 500 and 590.

I picked up a lightly used 500 for $150. Bought the 88 new for $200. I figured it was a good backup as a SHTF gun. I need something to dispurse the 3000 rounds of "00" Buck I have in the safe.

Be aware the 88 will not accept most aftermarket stocks, accessories, etc like a 500 will.

Thank you for this. I will have to try to dig up a little more information on the matter but that might be the deal breaker.

    No more than $150-175.
