Scopesights for Min 14

I have an older Ruger Mini 14, (SN 183...), that I find difficult to shhot due to the factory sights. It seems as thougn the front sight post is too high, (or the rear too low?), to comfortably get a good sight picture. I would like to replace the rear sight or preferably install a scope. Since it is not tapped for scope mounts an option is the type of mount that attaches to the side bolt on the receiver. I read about another scope mount that locates in the dovetail for the rear sight. Anyone have any suggestions?
