While I have seen one Maverick 88 and that was a few years ago I believe it closely resembles the Mossberg 500 since it is made at their factory in Texas. I have a New Haven 600 that is the fore runner of the Mossberg 500 and is a fine shotgun. The New Haven was also made by Mossberg. I inherited this gun which had a broken front sight bead that I replaced last week. You may also check the used market for the Mossberg or Maverick. I don't think you will be disappointed with either one.
