Useful MAP tools for finding BLM/forest land for shooting
Here is a useful tool for hunting for BLM, forest, range land or other spots that might be suitable for shooting (depending on your state's requirements): GeoCommunicator.gov.
Can be used to search for land with mining claims, rangeland, special forest areas (parks, etc), monuments, etc. It allows for printing to PDF, with legends.
Got any other useful web sites for such mapping of possible areas to shoot? Add the links/references here.

This looks like an awsome site, but could you give a beginner a basic tutorial on exactly what it is that we should be looking for to find a legal outdoor shooting location?

Just fiddle with the check-box options that allow filtering for which type of land you're looking for. ie, By checking only the boxes related to the type of lands you want to show, and unchecking the ones you don't want to see. Such as, checking "BLM wilderness" but excluding the other BLM monument/special type lands. The resulting map will just show those. Haven't figured out how to alter the zone colors for different sections, but the yellowish is sufficient to see where such places are.

Here is another good site from the USGS (U.S. Geological Survey). Just click on the Map Locator and Downloaderlink.
