Since I love oldie firearms so well my holy grail gun would be a pristine example of a Smith & Wesson Triple Lock revolver with a 4-inch barrel. If it was in the scarce .38-40 chambering then all the better.

Lara, I have observed the often-posted "If you could only have one gun" thread we have all seen posted dozens of times across the years and the multitude of self-defense-related forums boils down to, "Please help me make a decision acquiring my first gun".
In another thread you noted that you had taken and passed your CCW course (congratulations again!) and now I gather you are searching for your first handgun suitable for CCW.
Please tell us as much as you are willing to share and as is appropriate to share? How old are you? What is your stature? How strong and athletic are you? What is your typical style of dress? Do you plan to carry on-body or off-body?
Have you had the opportunity to go to a gun range that lets you rent or try different handguns? If yes, which handguns did you find most comfortable to grip and fire, and which did you shoot most easily?
A S&W J-frame with its horrendously stiff trigger is probably not such a good choice for a beginner; the sight radius is too short, the trigger is too heavy, the gun is too light (with respect to exerting a 15 pound trigger pull against a 1 or 1.5 pound gun).
If you plan to carry off body and you are taller than petite, I would suggest starting with a Glock Model 19 in 9mm. But we need lots more information about you and your surroundings to offer helpful suggestions.
Have you seen Lima's list of handguns that just-starting-out CCW women like?

Seriously... Every Red Blooded American should have to qualify with a M-2 .50! (note in the video they are teaching the 'talking guns' method and using T&Es on a tripod - the correct way to employ this - unless it has a sniper scope on it :-)) Now, I do have to admit that it is a bear when on a free swinging pintol.... but you have to stay ahead of the gun! (yes, this is a GUN, as well as a weapon).

Wilson Combat Professional Lightweight in 45acp. Maybe if I'm good I'll get one for Christmas!! I even tried to bribe my wife with the Ms. Sentinal if I could get mine, and she still said no. Maybe a new Dooney and Bourke will sweeten the deal enough?!!

I have a wish list that's pretty long... I'd have a heckuva hard time deciding which one would go the the top of the list if money was not a limitation. N-frame S&W, Merkel 20-gauge side by side, Dakota Arms bolt gun, maybe a custom job by Gary Reeder or Hamiton Bowen... or quite likely a custom 1911 or Hi-Power by Heirloom Precision.

Honestly? I don't even know. Some original Colt Peacemaker or something? A Mauser Broomhandle maybe? Luger?

I have no real need for one, so this would have to be $3500 I just couldn't find a way to spend on anything else.

I held a .50 cal sharps the last time I was in Gettysburg, looked like it had never been fired. I've wanted it ever since.
