    Good deal on Bushmaster?

A friend told me about a Bushmaster in .556 with a red dot scope that was listed for $799 at a local gun store. My knowledge of rifles is pretty limited, but I understand than this is a good, reliable make. Is the price a good deal?

    Thanks.

Depends on the scope and when the Bushmaster was made. In the past Bushmaster was better than it is currently. Either way that's not a bad price, but how good it is depends on those two questions.

not a bad price for an ar but if it is the bushmaster with the carbon/polymer lower i wouldnt buy it. I have talked with many gun stores and they will not carry that gun due to the polymer lower flexing and causing problems

Bushmaster has been an excellent brand in the past from my experience. I would not buy one with a polymer lower -- or any manufacturer with a polymer lower receiver.

Going to hear it from a few but there is a reason they are cheaper. They are ok and shoot well but not a life tame weapon if you really shoot it.
What a good AR/M4 go mil-spec or higher.

It's probably the carbon 15... Budsgunshop.com sells it for $699 shipped.

You guys have pretty much talked me out of the newer Bushmaster; but I was at my LGS the other day buying ammo, and they had a few models of the AR15 by Stag Arms. The one I was interested had iron sights, no carrying handle, and could be fitted with optics later on if desired. The sticker was $799, and they'll give me 5% off that. Everything I've read about this manufacturer has been very good.

    Any thoughts on this one?

Stag's are typically pretty good. Bushmaster's are good though... carbon 15 has some naysayers, but overall they're a million times better than the average DPMS or similar lower priced AR's. (DPMS makes good ones too though)

I imagine if you look through the Shotgun and Rifle sub-forum you'll get some good information on decent quality rifles that won't break the bank.

For under $800, you can't beat a PSA PSA 16'' M4 Premium Carbine - Palmetto State Armory - Rifles - Firearms

Properly staked, and ready to go.

Colt 6920 1000 at Walmart as good as it gets a far better platform worth a couple bucks more.
