When the plan comes together.
I just LOVE it when a plan comes together.
A few nights ago, I had gotten out of bed at midnight to use the bathroom. As I walked back to the bed, I heard a strange noise from in the kitchen. I looked in there, and nothing was amiss.
About 0010Hrs., the burglar alarm went off. I grabbed my .45 and my flashlight and threw the phone to the Mrs. She immediately dropped to the floor and grabbed her .38. I have told her to stay low near the bed so that I don't confuse her with an uninvited guest.
I made my way back to the kitchen. There stood the French Door wide open and a heck of a wind blowing into the room. I yelled to the wife to cancel the call and I shut the door after looking around some more.
There was a bright moon and I could see the whole yard...nobody there.
If you are not careful in shutting that particular door, it may not latch right. I have now remedied that situation.
It was good practice, and no harm done.

May all of our bumps in the night turn out as well as yours. Thumbs up to the Mrs., good team work!

Well, if we're critiquing... I'd have waited until after I had looked around and made sure there was no intruder before I yelled out (thusly taking away the element of surprise) and had my wife hang up on the 911 call. I have an armchair QB rating of 138.6, though, so it's easy for me to judge.

LOL@Brad.
You would have had to have been here.
I'm used to the house and that door has blown open before (although not at night).
I quickly realized what had happened, and the only place a perp would have been able to go was past me or out the door....ergo, when I saw nobody in the yard, all was well. Didn't want the police alerted unneccessarily.
BUT...thanks for the critique.

Sounds like it was good practice, and you handled it well.

You practiced the same procedures that we have put in place, with the exception that my wife grabs her .380...I carry the 9mm and the .38 stays in the nightstand. Well done.

Has your heart rate and blood pressure returned to normal yet!
Glad it turned out to be a false alarm.

I have a mirror that sticks to the wall of the shower with suction cups. It's been up for over 3 years, and a couple of months ago it decided that 3:00am was a good time to come crashing down.
That had my blood pressure going.
It's all part of the big picture.

Maybe it was Santa making an early delivery and you scared him away!
Glad it was a false alarm.

Not really how it works here. Just a heads up.

Exact same thing happened to me
It was weird, though, I subconsciously knew what it was. My wife sat bolt upright in the bed and whispered "What was that?" and I didn't even open my eyes and said "Mirror falling in the tub." Of course she still made me get up and go investigate, but that's what it was.
