    "You carrying?"

So my wife and I (both ccw permit holders) go out with some of our known liberal friends to a movie not too long ago. Now the husband of this other couple and I have been friends 15 years and good friends at that. He's now a county magistrate in the county in which we live and I am very proud of the guy (heart of gold). But, he is heavily influenced by his even more liberal, guns kill people instead of people kill people wife (whom I also like very much). Since being married over 2 years ago he has not taken his dust covered Barreta M9 (9mm) out of the top of his closet. Back to the story, we go to the movie and he knows I am a practicing cww holder so he asks me discreetly, "you carrying?". I replied with a smile and a casual "you know it". He smiles at me and says "I'm glad. I feel safer knowing that" Yes. He was very sincere. I just think its humorous and sad at the same time that he doesn't carry his. I asked him what he would do if I wasn't there to make him "feel safer". I got little of any sort of reply.

I am amazed (I know I shouldn't be) by the lack of personal responsibility exhibited here as well as a dose of hypocrisy. What are your thoughts?
We should not forget that the spark which ignited the American Revolution was caused by the British attempt to confiscate the firearms of the colonists. -

That's because his wife is the one doing the packing--if you know what I mean.

About all you can do is to make it patently clear the ramifications of such lack, if the need is thrust upon him. It might be worth talking with him about the realities, perhaps heading the range as shooting buddies. But sadly, it might well be that he won't truly get it until after he's suffered some sort of attack and actually experienced the results of his policy.

Sort of ironic & disturbing at the same time.
He judges other people for a living, but has no convictions himself.

The lyrics from Jonathan Edwards' "Sunshine"
    come to mind.

He can't even run his own life
I'll be damned if he'll run mine,

Well, I wouldn't read that much into it. Sounds like his position is partly an accommodation for his wife. We all make some changes when we get married.

To the OP, I wouldn't sweat it much. Friends have quirks, we either accept them or move on. This one seems pretty small, IMHO (it's not you he has to wake up to every morning....)

A wife I have to accommodate when it comes to my/our safety is a wife I don't need.

    My wife doesn't like firearms.
    Never has, never will.
She knew all along where I stand on the issue.
I took her shooting a few times before we were married.
She thought it was ok, thats about it.
We have been married 28 years.
I'm still packin' & we are still married.

Argh! Stupid! And oneshot, thanks but man that was rough. I need to stop clicking these links. Trying to keep my faith in humanity...it is those horrific stories that keep me vigilant. And yet makes me wish I never had to leave my families side.

Op he has made his decision, and he will (hopefully) live with it. We made different ones and that's our choice.
