So I was looking up some information today about possibly putting a Hogue grip on my M&P Shield and stumbled across a photo of a Shield with the S&W logo and letting up front in gold, and at another time I saw one that was in white. Is this a custom mod people do? I loved the way the gold look, super classy but is this expensive or very hard to do?
A lot of folks use crayons to fill in the engravings... rub it in with your fingers, wipe off the excess and then heat it ever-so-gently with a hair drier to 'flow" the wax smooth.
It generally holds up pretty well.
I do it with nail polish - saw the how to on the XD forums. Basically you paint over the lettering with the nail polish, scrape it with the side of an old credit card or used gift card, dip a q tip in NON acetone nail polish remover and use that to gently clean up around the lettering. The polish down in will stay there and the rest is removed. If you want to take it all off or change the color later you simply soak a cotton ball in the NON acetone nail polish remover and remove it all. I need to redo mine, I had a hard time getting the logo just right, but I wanted a little pink on mine...what's a girl to do? Now that is just way too inexpensive and easy. Hey guys . . . there are gold/glitter nail polishes out there which might be just the look you're going for.
I might mention this idea to my wife. My guns will be staying "black and boring" looking. I bet she'd like her Glock to have pink writing on it. Sparkles? All the better!
For the ladies - sure, ok whatever. For a guy- putting nail polish or coloring with a crayon on your gun? Turn in your man card please . In all seriousness, whatever floats your boat.
Hey man up! LOL Our military men have known for years that panyhose is wonderful stuff in the field. LOL We've stolen your pants, you can steal our polish . . . just please don't put it on your nails.
Thanks for the instructions Lish!
Oh, I should add, my father had exclusive rights to the bright red nail polish when I was growing up. No female in the house ever used it. He painted all kinds of dials and things he wanted to show up a little better with it.
WOW, thanks guys!! That is awesome, i'm (a little too?) excited to go down and buy some gold nail polish now and make my shield look like the royalty it is! I love having projects like this to do. Sweet!

I'm going to find the photo of the Shield with golden accents, you will see the attraction!

This is with about 5 or 6 months of use on the crayon. The XD has had roughly 1000 rounds and the Glock 400 put through them... I did however go for the premium crayon, it's a Crayola Crayon and not some dollar store knock off.... :)
