    What is the significance of this? It's higher that other ones I know, but why?

    The F should mean it is standard height but a few have been cheating on that with their cheaper parts. The F was for the true M4 and is used on the 16 inch barrel AR 's most of us buy. The reason for the difference is distance between front and rear sights
