    Statement from DICK’S Sporting Goods
We are extremely saddened by the unspeakable tragedy that occurred last week in Newtown, CT, and our hearts go out to the victims and their families, and to the entire community.
Out of respect for the victims and their families, during this time of national mourning we have removed all guns from sale and from display in our store nearest to Newtown and suspended the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of our stores chainwide.
We continue to extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by this terrible tragedy.

I'll believe it when I see the Dick's corporate press release.

I tried to buy a shotgun from Dicks about four years ago. Gave them my CHL and driver's license. They gave hand me a form 4473 and a Dicks "firearms form". I asked why I needed to fill out a FFL form AND a special Dicks form. The kid behind the counter said it was for "their" record keeping. Dicks form asked for SS#, DL, home address, phone number etc. After a small discussion with the store manager I took myself and my money to another store.

So, your friend doesn't know his a$$ from a hole in the ground.
    Also, it's on their website.
Why would you insult my friend? He told me that an employee of the store told him this over the phone. My friend must have been informed incorrectly. I apologize.

We've just had a major tragedy in our country. Some lunatic psycho killed people's children...their children! I'm not surprised at the reaction in terms of liberal anti-gun people, gun owners hoping to preserve their constitutional rights, and those who sell guns (see Dicks, Cheaper than Dirt, etc.) hoping to preserve their businesses. My hope is that once this normal, human, emotional response recedes, we can have some return to logic and clarity of thought (if this is possible given the media's desire to create virtual hysteria to improve ratings). The sensitivity to acts of gun violence is at an all time high.

As an example, my wife and I went to see the movie "Lincoln" tonight. Two of the trailers before the movie featured very violent gun scenes, one for the movie "Gangster Squad" and another which I can't recall--both trailers very violent. The reaction by the movie-goers was something I'd never seen....very negative. I won't compare the tragedy at S.H.E.S. to 911, but I will say that it has, in some similar ways, shocked this country and right now the wound is very open.

So maybe we should withhold judgement on these retailers and the NRA (see other threads) as well as the anti-gun lobby until we can get that period of clarity.
