the only guns I know that have 7 or less rounds are sub-compacts and revolvers. People say "don't blame everyone in NY.. it's the politicians." I say it's the entire populace who voted these idiots into office.
I guess I am not finding anything to make a joke about here. I don't live there or go there but the implications of this are far reaching and will ultimately affect every one. This is death by a thousand cuts.
All kinds of people are worried about draconian confiscations and executive orders. These are things that will not happen. The people running the states and the country are actually pretty smart and know this has to be done incrementally. This is the first step. What NY has done will be the model for the govt. It's inconvenient and a bit radical but not enought to set people off or make them rise up. People will complain, lawsuits will be filed but I bet the majority will follow the rules...one step closer to the lemming cliff.
There will be plenty of people that will ignore the law and keep their mags and guns, but they have been rendered useless because if you ever use, it will be the last time you do.
I think they know that it won't stop criminals. I don't think they care because that's not what it's about. It's one more nail in the coffin and 1/50 of the states has just lost the meaning of the Second Amendment.
You can't invade the United States because there would be a rifle behind every blade of grass, except in New York...
I think it is likely that the reason for picking 7 rounds magazine was because they are not something already made by gun companies. This will create problems for Law abiding NY residents, and the pols hope many gun owners will simply give up being a gun owner be/c it is a pain the the a$$.
Instead, I think it is likely that there arbitrary pick of 7 rounds will be what dooms this legislation when it hits the courts.
Hopefully you're right about that part tying it up in court. The 7 round BS is obviously a middle finger to gun owners. 10 round mags are readily available since theyre mandated in some areas, so that wouldn't be "inconvenient" enough. Compliance would require an outlay of capital, not only for gun owners, but also mag manufacturers who would now need to produce standard mags, 10 round mags, and 7 round mags.
My understanding is ... it also bans all guns which can hold a magazine over 7 rounds, so "if true" that would ban most handguns, against the very rulings, etc. of the Supreme Court in Heller and McDonald.
I would expect a court challenge if they try to do that.
And, what about those 'traveling ' thru the state with guns that hold more than 7 rounds ?
Does this mean the gang-bangers are going to go turn in all of their Glocks. ??? They just made a lot of New Yorkers, criminals over night.
Wait for Judie Jeanine Peirro's response to this one.
Saturdays 9-10p EST, Judge Jeanine Pirro lets it rip on Fox, or online: here.
It will be interesting to see her show this next couple of weeks, as the SHTF on the anti-2A movement and the sell-out of elected hacks across the country. She's got an interesting handful of recent shows as well, here.
The people of New York elected these scum bags. They have no one to blame but themselves.
Truth hurts. These same people have relocated south by the masses and are helping to ruin states than were once very conservative. North Carolina, Florida, and Virginia come to mind.
Don't forget that over 40% of the state is controlled by a single city... one that routinely serves as a massive blue dot in an otherwise moderate-to-red state. There are many in central NY who didn't vote for these clowns who will pay the price for the actions of NYC...
I have not read every post in this thread so forgive me if this has already been covered...
I heard earlier on "Real News", which is on TheBlaze network, that NY has added all semi-auto handguns to the "assault weapons" ban list. I have not been able to confirm this from any other source.
I am going to ask a probably dumb question. How do they know how many round your magazines hold unless you tell them? Maybe it was part of the registration process? And how in the world will the police find the time to enforce this? As I see it, and maybe I am thinking too simply, the only way you get caught is after you shoot the gun at someone and the cops investigate. Then you get slapped. I just don't see how this aspect of the law is economically enforceable. If anybody has information please enlighten me.

So now that 15 round 9mm that the gangbanger bought illegally out of the trunk of a car is more illegal for him to murder people with than it was before....everyone in NYC, relax, you're safer now...
I am not a lawyer, but I took a look at the bill - because you can bet this will be used as a model for elsewhere:
1. Pre-1994 higher cap (more than 10 rounds) mags that were grandfathered are now illegal. NYers will have one year to sell them out of state.
2. 10-rd mags currently in possession can only be loaded with 7 rounds.
3. New mags are limited to 7 rounds (of course, for many guns such mags do not exist)
4. "Assault rifles" are now illegal. Current owners are grandfathered, but will have to register the guns with the State. One feature, like a pistol grip, flash hider, muzzle brake, folding/telescopic stock on a semi-auto that takes a detacheable mag = "assault weapon." [Note to NYers - Ruger Mini 14 still seems legal]
5. All ammo sales will require a background check
6. All private sales other than immediate family will require a background check
Numerous other provisions about mental health workers notifying authorities if they feel someone is a danger. Of course, all that will do is discourage anyone who owns guns (or might want to own them some day) from getting the help they need.
Note - Again, I am not a lawyer. The above is based on a quick read through the bill. I am sure there will be more analysis as time goes by.
- "sell" me your Sig P229 mags
- I'll tag them with sellers info
- when the silliness is thrown out by the courts, contact me and I'll "sell" them back at the same price.
We can split shipping, I guess.
Don't want to profiteer, but wouldn't mind baby-sitting a pile of mags fellow owners were forced to move out of state.
They have, effectively, through their elected slugs. Formally and in writing, legally. So far as the courts will be concerned, they certainly have.
Though, the flipside of that is true as well. It's time to leverage the other elements of our form of governance, to be sure, so those who vehemently disagree with the unconstitutional steps taken by these slugs are reversed and the slugs in question are ejected from our midst. And that right quick, firmly and resolutely ... but absolutely. The bell's tolling, for all of us. Time to drop the bell on "their" heads.
