TargetSportsUSA's "mistake" means no ammo for me

So a few weeks ago, I ordered ammo from TargetSportsUSA. 1000 rounds of 40 S&W, 1000 rounds of 9mm Luger. The entire thing was $559.80

Today I log in since their past my order date for "catching up" and I haven't received an email about shipping. After looking up my information, they say "I'm sorry, your order's been canceled. We had a "glitch" in the system."

Really? There was a 1000 plus round glitch in the system for two different types of ammo? The fact that I let quite a few other deals go because I was expecting this shipment really kind of torques me off. Their only "help" is that they're willing to call me when they get ammo in again and offer it to me before it gets put on the website. Of course, it'll be at the price I paid for it. However, that really doesn't help me now, nor does it help me take my CCL course next week when we need a 100 rounds of ammo. I can buy it there, but instead of paying .29 cents a round like I would of for the shipment from Targetsports, I'll be paying close to if not over .40 cents a round.

I get the feeling that they took as many orders as possible, and held off shipping as long as possible in the hopes that they would get more ammo in. IN MY OPINION it looks that way and it's a very bad way of doing business, especially when a number of other sites have been able to ship same day or next day. Looks like it's an ammo store I'll be staying away from.

So, they didn't technically "rob" you - they just gave you an unwanted refund instead of the promised goods. That sucks.

No, they didn't "rob" me at all, at least in the traditional sense. I do feel they robbed me of the opportunity to buy ammo somewhere else at a decent price before everything got that much more expensive. I do understand computer mistakes, but the amount of time it supposedly takes them to ship everything out, only then to find out that they don't have it in stock makes absolutely no sense, especially when other online companies are maintaining shipping at the same time.

Oh, BTW - I forgot to add that I did call them to find out if they had the ammo and they said, "If it's on the site, then it is available."

Yeah - they "robbed" you. I put it in quotes because technically it isn't true, but in reality they screwed you because they wanted to make more money. I'm sure you weren't the only one. It's way to convenient for me to believe for a second that it was a "glitch" - and if they are sticking to that story, then they should just fix the glitch and ship your ammo to you. Have you spoken with any supervisor/manager types about it?

So you don't understand the situation going on right now and you think you're getting screwed. You're trying to interpret their definition of "glitch" and speculating as to the meaning. I can play that too. Maybe someone made a mistake and entered the wrong inventory quantity which caused the system to oversell. Relax, accept that people make mistakes, you got your money back, go on with life.

That'd be true, and I'd accept it as true, if that was the definition. Unfortunately, it wasn't. First, it happened across at least two different types of ammo, so it's not just a "wrong inventory" issue. Second, the person on the phone even said that it was a "glitch" in the system. Now, I'm not a computer specialist, but I know them well enough to know that unless you've updated the system or there's a hardware problem, "glitches" don't happen in modern databases out of nowhere. That's the issue. It smacks of bad business practice.

A few weeks ago I dealt with another "glitch" where I thought I had purchased a Mossberg 830. At first, the site showed it available. When I went to order it, it then showed it as unavailable. I went back, and it showed it available again, so I bought it thinking that someone else had it in their basket and the basket expired. The next morning I get an email that it was out of stock and the order canceled. I called and they explained what happened. I wasn't happy, but I could fully accept it because the explanation made sense as compared to what actually happened.

In this case however, waiting over three weeks, never getting an email, then begin told that both calibers are completely sold out after being assured that it was in stock, something just feels like "bad business practice." As if they were stringing me and who knows how many others along while they were trying to find ammo to fill the orders, and only canceled them after so many days went by.

Austin: Yeah, I know you weren't saying it either. I just made mention of it because I wanted to be accurate in what happened, that's all. I didn't want someone else to read it and think that I was saying that they "robbed me." I completely agree with you however, except that I doubt calling them again will really do anything.
