Need to send a handgun back to the factory.

I need to send my Taurus PT145 Millennium Pro back to the factory for repair. My question is do I need to send it (and receive it back) through an FFL? Is it against the law to just pack it in a hard case and ship it UPS?

To send it back for repairs you don't need an ffl.Now say Taurus says,it can't be repaired,and we are going to replace it.Then they would have to send it to an ffl dealer,because serial number has changed.I had to send one back to S&W this past Dec..I called S&W and they emailed me a shipping label.S&W did tell me to be sure to tell Fedex,that there was a gun in the box.I just used a box i had that would hold it.Nothing fancy.I did have to take it to Fedex.Their drivers cant accept guns,(unless you do have an ffl)but when it came back they did deliver.S&W told me to use Fedex,don't know about Taurus.Good luck.

I took mine back to the dealer I bought it from and they shipped it and received it for me.

Unfortunately I purchased it at a gun show about 5 years ago. One day after going to the range I started the procedure to break the gun down for cleaning.....and the top of the take down pin (pin that allows the slide to be removed) broke off. Called the vendor and his reply was "to bad....to sad.....send it to Taurus".

If it is just the take down pin and you can get it out. Call them. They will probably mail you a new pin.

A local gunsmith should be able to fix it for you fairly reasonably.

Yes, true a local gunsmith should be able to repair the damage but you could run the risk of voiding Tarus' life time warrenty on the pistol.

They will sell me the pin for $14.95 plus S/H, but will not send it free of charge. Having a local experienced gunsmith will void their warranty from what I was told.

I just sent a 4566 back to S&W for repair via Fedex. It costs a whopping $88 for the overnight priority. I'd suggest checking with local FFLs to see what they charge.
