So this one has the original pony grips? The majority of the pictures of this gun I've seen have the other pony symbol that has that diamond type shape around the pony like the picture above.

I'm having a hard time envisioning the description of the "diamond shape" to which you refer. Could you find and post a link? I'm curious.

Here's a photo of different style grips provided as standard on the little Colts at different times during their production. A part of the site OD* provided in his link. Colt 1908 Vest Pocket Hammerless .25 ACP Pistol Standard Grips - Coltautos.com

I can't get on that Sam Lisker Colt site too often or too long. It's too hard on the heart rate.

The stocks on your Vest Pocket are the second variation.

Sorry for describing it poorly. I was referring to

Between the posts and PM's, you gentlemen have been greatly informative (and I must admit, patient). Thanks a lot guys!

I've had a few drinks tonight, so sometime tomorrow/before the weekend, I'll post a picture of the innards when I break it down.

I just don't handle firearms when I've indulged.

The photo I provided of the trademark roll mark on the side plated of the Model 1909 New Service is is the "Rampant Colt" superimposed over a stylized "C". This variation was only used for a couple years either side of 1910.

The photo is an enlargement of this same photo.

Which is in turn, a photo of this revolver.

There is only one problem with this.

Now that you have entered the OLD GUN OWNER club, Colt division, you are most likely hooked. This fine firearm will soon find a brother, then a couple of cousins, then you will see a SAA that you will just have to handle...

Good luck and welcome to the club.

Hopefully in the near future, this will be a problem I can afford to have. :)

I hope so too. That 1924 SAA cost me nearly $3,000.

Actually that exact "C" is from the old book Monogrammes, Cyphers, & Alphabetic Devices.

I know...I'm a wealth of completely useless information that will never make me any $$$.
